What does a red shirt mean? I thought it was a pink triangle or rainbow. I cant keep upClick to expand
The first “gay days” was not a great organized event. It was a bunch of gay friends (and their friends) meeting at WDW. They decided to all wear red shirts so they could find/keep track of each other, much like so many other groups, family reunions, etc. wear matching shirts.
They had a fantastic time, went back with more people, and eventually it grew into a big thing involving promoters, nighttime private parties at various parks and water parks, etc.
The red shirt tradition continued. Here is my red shirt pic with my crush at the time (I’m in the tie dyed shirt) circa
Mickey’s “red shirt” was not lost on us.
I think he and I went two years in a row. I loved the Beach Ball party at Typhoon Lagoon. A water park at night with a DJ, drinks, and complete freedom to be yourself without any looks from people who don’t realize better manners.
I did not relish the parks as much during the day, though. Hot, crowded, strollers, etc. and didn’t acquire AP
ORLANDO | The collective turned out for the annual Gay tradition of wearing red shirts to Walt Disney Worlds Magic Kingdom June 7.
Gay Day at Disney’s Magic Kingdom first took place on June 1, , in front of Cinderella’s Castle at the Magic Kingdom just before the 3 p.m. parade. The thought was for the LGBTQ+ community to gather, all wearing red shirts, to be visible and to be seen during a day when doing so could be dangerous.
This year, 34 years later, Gay Evening at the Magic Kingdom fell on June 7 and many from the LGBTQ+ community gathered, celebrated and turned Disney red to honor that authentic commitment.
This year, folks gathered at Cinderellas Castle at 5 p.m. for a group photo. Earlier in the afternoon, many of those red-shirt-wearing attendees took to the 1 p.m. showtime of the Country Bear Jamboree, back after being closed for a reimagining during last years Homosexual Day, for the annual tradition of seeing Henry, Trixie, Big Al and the rest of the Country Bears sing and dance.
Check out photos from the day below.

question about gay days
I may be a bit spoilt, as my brother and my sister-in-law went quite out of their way to tell their children that their uncle and his "special friend" were a bit different but they loved each other. Being inquisitive, intelligent, and basically all-around good kids, they assimilated this awareness as readily as they did when told that dogs go bark and cows go moo.
By the way, only 22 days left until I proceed for Gay Days! Wahoo!!

WDW June Gay Days general Discussion Thread
So just wanted to reassure everyone, in my personal experience, that WDW is indeed a safe environment year orbicular, including Gay Days.
Gay Days are traditionally built around the first Saturday in June. This year it is June 7, and following the normal schedule the designated parks are:
Thursday June 5, Animal Kingdom
Friday June 6, Disney Studios
Saturday Jine 7, Magic Kingdom
Sunday June 8, EPCOT
The parks are open to the general public, it is not a private ticket event, unlike at Disneyland.
While there are some intimate events, and one promoter is actually scheduling a week earlier than usual this year, including a private ticket party at
Typhoon Lagoon scheduled for May
Ill be traveling with a friend, whose wife hates traveling, so he goes with me often. Also in my party will be his 16 yo grandson.
