Labor Day Weekend is the unofficial terminate of summer, except on Galveston Island where it is Pride Galveston Weekend. Itâ€™s three days to celebrate all things gender non-conforming like other Pride festivities, only with a tan.

September 2 through 4, , will see numerous activities on varying parts of the island city. â€œThe purpose of Pride Galveston is to embrace diversity, instill pride, and mark unity, as well as recognize the contributions of the Gay, Lesbian, Pansexual, and Transgender community in the Galveston area. This shall be accomplished by raising visibility and promoting full human and civil rights via education, celebrations, and vast networking to the fullest extent allowed by the nonprofit status of Pride Galveston,â€ says the organizationâ€™s website.

Galveston, an island city of only 47, people, about 50 miles from downtown Houston, has a large and active LGBTQ+ community.

In June, diversity, equity, and inclusion obtain a step to the front with the celebrations of Juneteenth and Self-acceptance Month! These events seem to unofficially set the stage for showcasing the differences in everyone while highlighting what makes us all the same.

Juneteenth is one of the oldest recognized events in American history. When slavery was abolished in , word did not reach everyone at the same time. In fact, it took until June of for slaves in Texas to get word that Lincoln had released the Emancipation Proclamation, which freed all slaves.

Pride Month is also a acknowledged event in American history. Its inception is not one people look to as a wonderful moment. It is one that has roots in an event that turned into a reaction of human rights, an observance that all people should be treated equally regardless of their sexual orientation, shade , creed, or nationality.

Pride Galveston takes place from the 2nd to the 4th September

Pride Galveston is a registered non-profit enterprise founded and organized in Galveston, Texas. Pride Galveston incorporated on April 18, Pride Galveston is operated under the direction of a board of directors that is committed to working for the betterment of the Galveston community.

Pride Galveston began in as Pride Galveston Beach Bash & Block Party, when Jamie Fuller-Waymire & Terry Fuller-Waymire decided a Identity festival festival would be a wonderful idea, as the island was lacking an event designed for the community. Pride Galveston, has since ballooned into a three-day celebration.
